GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the supervision of Building Administrator and Mathematics Coordinator, the position will provide leadership and expertise in mathematics teaching to building level administrators, staff members, and parents to improve student learning in mathematics.
MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Support instruction of mathematics
- Promote enhanced mathematics instruction and student learning by helping teachers develop more effective mathematics teaching practices that allow all students to reach high standards as well as sharing research addressing how students learn mathematics.
- Provide building level leadership and support to teachers and paraprofessionals to increase their content knowledge in mathematics and facilitate teachers’ use of successful, research-based instructional strategies, including differentiated instruction for diverse learners through consultations with teachers and modeling lessons in teacher's classrooms.
- Collaborate with teachers to review and further develop mathematics curriculum maps, pacing guides, and instructional plans to enhance the success of students and teachers.
- Coordinate the review process and then the implementation of division standards-based and problem-based instructional materials that are grounded in contextual and concrete learning experiences.
Plan and coordinate the implementation of opportunities for parent participation in mathematics.
- Support the professional growth of middle school mathematics teachers by strengthening classroom teachers’ understanding of math content.
- Engage in research-based professional development and apply learned professional development practices by monitoring various forms of documentation and records regarding mathematics instruction and learning.
- Provide leadership and consultation services in the assessment of mathematics to identify students who are at risk as well as those students who may be gifted in mathematics.
- Provide sustained mentoring for new teachers by providing assistance in developing and implementing their mathematics program.
Analyze test data to improve mathematics instruction
- Analyze student test scores (SOL and VARDT) and collaborate with classroom teachers to identify students in grades 6,7, and 8 who may qualify for intervention services based on state guidelines.
- Use the ARDT (Algebra Readiness Diagnostic Test) to assess students and to identify their weaknesses and to posttest students and assess their growth and/or need for additional intervention.
- Collaborate with the building level administrator to plan a schedule for working with students who are participating in the Algebra Readiness Intervention Program.
- Use the information from the VARDT to design and implement an individual learning plan for each student who is being remediated. This plan will ensure that students participating in the Algebra Readiness Intervention Program receive an additional 2.5 hours of mathematics instruction during the week as required in the state guidelines
- Collaborate with the building level administration, building level staff, and district level Secondary Mathematics Coordinator in the development and implementation of programs (such as, intervention, enrichment, etc) and strategies for the improvement of student achievement in mathematics.
- Analyze student assessment data and use the results to design and coordinate the implication of appropriate intervention strategies.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Master’s degree completing a graduate level approved mathematics specialist middle education preparation program
- Hold a license in K-8 middle education and mathematics specialist endorsement preferred
- Five (5) years of successful full-time 6-8 classroom teaching experience

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work environment is inside a classroom, with quiet noise level, temperatures that are controlled, and no exposure to chemicals or other negative air quality elements.
- The work is light work, requiring exertion of up to 20 pounds of force to move or lift objects.
