GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the supervision of the Lead General Maintenance Worker, a General Maintenance Worker performs routine skilled and semi-skilled work in assisting in the repair and maintenance of buildings, grounds and equipment.
MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintenance of grounds
- Perform minor maintenance and installations independently.
- Maintain landscaped areas using best ground practices
- Maintain sports field turf to include planting, cutting and fertilizing
- Plant and prune ornamental plants to achieve healthy and attractive landscapes
- Maintain and repair grounds tools and equipment.
- Perform basic grounds maintenance work including mowing, trimming and snow removal.
- Keep all school grounds free of litter and debris.
- Attend all general and in service meetings.
- Respond to maintenance emergencies during off duty hours as required.
Maintenance of buildings
- Set up chairs/tables, etc. for special events held at the school.
- Respond to maintenance emergencies during off duty hours as required.
- Move furniture or equipment as required.
- Unlock and secure building and facilities to include arming/disarming the alarm system as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma, G.E.D., or any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduating from high school
- Previous experience in the maintenance of buildings, grounds, and related equipment preferred
- Must be eligible to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License, if needed
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge
- Knowledge of materials, equipment, tools, and techniques of grounds maintenance.
- Knowledge of turf and ornamental landscaping.
- Knowledge of Storm Water Management practices
- Knowledge regarding safety regulations, such as OSHA and Hazard Communication.
- Knowledge regarding the appropriate operation of the alarm system.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work environment is inside and outside, with moderate to loud noise, temperatures that are subject to extreme heat and/or cold, and frequent exposure to chemicals or other negative air quality elements.
- The work is can be heavy work, requiring exertion of up to 50 pounds of force to move or lift objects.
