GENERAL PURPOSE

Under the supervision of the Building Administrator and with direction from one or more teachers, the Licensed Practical Nurse (Instructional) works closely with students in health occupations classes to provide instructional supervision support.

 

MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Assist health occupations teachers

  • Supervise students as directed by the teacher(s) to ensure safety and learning of students.
  • Administer, score, and record such achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students.
  • Work with individual students or groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Assist teacher(s) with documentation and other clerical functions.
  • Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work in collaboration with the teacher.
  • Assist with the reasonable supervision or students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, field trips, and instructional activities.
  • Assist with other school-wide needs as directed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma, G.E.D. or any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation to high school.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (required).
  • Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED.
  • Must hold a valid Virginia Driver’s License.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge
    • Basic health care practices and medication administration (including schedule II-VI drugs), diabetes, asthma and allergy, and safety issues with respect to current nursing practice.
    • Guidelines of Confidentiality as outlined in Federal and State laws and county policies and procedures.
    • Special education process (including IEPs).
  • Skills
    • Microsoft Office and Google Suite.

    • Meet deadlines for all work even when working on multiple projects
    • Show sustained effort and enthusiasm in quality and quantity of work

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work environment is inside an office in a school, with quiet to moderate noise, temperatures that are controlled, and some exposure to chemicals or other negative air quality elements.
  • The work is moderate work, requiring exertion of up to 50 pounds of force to move or lift objects.
  • The following physical and mental abilities are representative of those expected to complete the essential functions of the job: standing for prolonged periods; sitting for prolonged periods; operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment; moving the hands, wrists, or fingers repetitively; moving with force on the back or lower body repetitively; feeling, grasping, or holding objects by hand; identifying colors visually; identifying objects in low light or distant conditions; communicating via spoken language; communicating via written language; perceiving sounds; making decisions using logic and rational thinking.
