GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the supervision of the Physical Plants Coordinator, this position performs urgent HVAC repair calls, diagnosing and resolving issues, and ensuring that all systems operate efficiently and effectively.
MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reactive HVAC Technician
- Respond promptly to emergency service calls for HVAC systems
- Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing commercial HVAC equipment such as split systems, packaged units, chillers, cooling towers, boilers, valves, expansion tanks, and pumps
- Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing commercial kitchen equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, steamers, dishwashers, ovens and hood systems
- Perform troubleshooting and repairs on HVAC control systems
- Perform thorough inspections and testing of HVAC equipment to identify problems
- Communicate effectively with clients to explain issues, provide
recommendations, and ensure understanding of the repair process
- Complete all necessary paperwork, including service reports and repair
documentation
- Maintain and organize tools, equipment, and parts
- Follow safety protocols and adhere to company standards and procedures
- Provide exceptional customer service and uphold the company's reputation
Performs preventative maintenance to heating, air conditioning, food service, refrigeration and ventilation systems as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or its equivalent.
- Experience with Direct Digital Control and Energy Management Systems.
- Hold current EPA approved CFC Universal certificate.
- Possess a valid Virginia Driver's License.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge
- Mandated safety regulations such as OSHA, Hazard Communication, etc.
- HVAC systems, food service equipment, refrigeration, plumbing, and electrical systems including tools and equipment required for maintenance and repair.

- Diagnose mechanical defects in a variety of equipment and take appropriate action in correcting them.
- Assess day-to-day priorities and direct staff to effectively complete required tasks.

- Read, interpret and understand architectural, mechanical and electrical plans and specifications.
- Read, understand, and implement operational manuals of the plants.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work environment is indoors and outdoors with regular exposure to weather conditions; in proximity to moving mechanical parts and electrical equipment; and in confined spaces.
- The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- The employee is exposed to fumes, dirt/dust, gases, and the risk of electric shock.
- Must possess the physical ability to work primarily with fingers, perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.
